OVERSEAS MARKET OUTLOOK: In the fourth Asian trade, the yen fell to its lowest level in more than two years against the dollar on Thursday, reflecting expectations that the new government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will push to weaken Japan's currency and implement aggressive stimulus.
The dollar rose to as high as 85.87 yen on trading platform EBS, its highest level since September 2010. The greenback last stood at about 85.77 yen, up 0.2 percent from late US trade on Wednesday. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 54.85, the greenback was available at 3.0625 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.2363 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained unchanged on buying side while it was improved on selling side by 10-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 97.60 and Rs 98.00 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. There was no change in its supply situation that helped rupee's stability at Rs 97.60 on buying counter. However, in the absence of buying interest, the dollar failed to sustain and slide down to Rs 97.90 on selling counter, the dealers said.
The national currency also maintained upward slide and was appreciated against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 157.30 and Rs 158.30 as its buying and selling rates compared with last day closing of Rs 157.50 and Rs 158.50, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The buying and selling rates of dollar against the rupee remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 98.50 and Rs 98.60 for buying and selling respectively against the same last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 98.50 for buying and Rs 98.60 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 158.50 and Rs 158.60 for buying and selling respectively against the same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 158.50 for buying and Rs 158.60 for selling.
